Kani Yamabushi and Kambara

Watch Kani Yamabushi and Kamabara and compare and contrast the plays in structure, characters, etc. in a group discussion. Do any of the “one liners’ remind you of past or present jokes?

The big similarities between the two plays are the style of speech, character interaction, and number of characters, and the starkness of the sets. There isn't much decoration or prop usage in any of the plays we've seen so far. Each play has had three characters, which isn't too surprising considering the reverence given to the number three in many cultures.

The interaction of the characters is similar in that one of the three is either the antagonist or the butt of a joke, and the other two team up or at least work together in some way.

The husband in Kambara who kept trying to commit suicide reminded me of Redd Foxx in Sanford and Son because he kept saying it was his last day - "Elizabeth! I'm comin'!"
